Review of Minutes: Sue Signor moved to approve the 11-15-09 Eclipse Minutes. Sarah Keller seconded. All approved.
Financial Update: – Sue gave a summary of the Eclipse club finances. She has received dues from 190 players encompassing 12 teams. We could have 2 more teams if the 92/93 girls and boys team can get a full roster. Fall gym rental bill will come soon. Also about $4,600 is earmarked from the savings for the Scholarship fund. Pips thanked Sue for all the hard work she has done for the club in this very important position.
Old Business:
1. FYSA Update: Brian Luoma shared that Session II indoor and co-ed is starting. FYSA has put in for a grant for goals and nets for South Davis, and for equipment to help resurface the fields which will fix fields faster.
2. Registrar - Unfortunately due to health issues, Tara Drennon will no longer be able to be the club Registrar. We are in great need of filling this position, so please forward any names of who may be interested to Pips Veazey. Pips will send out a job description of the position for more clarification of the duties.
3. Coaching Coordinator/Goalie Coordinator - John Cadigan is focusing on the younger kids for his goal keeping training mostly on Friday nights. Dave Veazey has the academy flyers out for players. There were over 40 participants in the clinic over Christmas, and has proven to be a very successful offering from the club.
4. 3 vs 3 Tournament - The tournament was larger than last year with 36 teams in the tournament. There was good competition and fun. The concessions and refereeing went very well.
5. Uniforms: Sarah Keller has sized all the teams up with the new boys and girls uniforms and teams are ordering what they need. Bev Luoma presented the new proposed training suit. She also explained the differences with the unisex sizing and the men's and women's sizing. The women's sizes are smaller and more narrow. Sue Signor moved to approve the new Addidas Condivo sweatsuit for the next 2 years in the unisex for both the girls and boys teams. Seconded by Anita Simpson. Motion approved. Thank you Bev and Sarah for all the hard work on providing our club with uniforms through the years!
6. Club Newsletter: Amy Geiger is in the early stages of getting a quarterly newsletter started for the club. Sue Signor will help Amy with a distribution list for soliciting information for the newsletter. Amy and Howard can work together to get this on the website. Amy plans to spotlight a volunteer and player in each newsletter. She also hopes to have a high school player provide an article or update every so often. If you have any suggestions for the newsletter please contact Amy Geiger at amyreedg@gmail.com.
7. Midnight Sun Tournament: Great News! The Midnight Sun tournament was awarded $3,000 from the bed tax fund.
8. Gaming Permit: Colleen O'Neill shared that we have received our gaming permit! Yeah, we passed the test! Judy Nolan is the alternate gaming coordinator. Thank you Colleen and Judy for stepping up for this very important position in our club! Colleen asked if we could increase our prizes. It was noticed that in the last raffle that it seemed there was one less prize. It appears all prizes should total $2,000 - one $1,000, - two $250, and five $100 cash prizes. Also Colleen mentioned Judy wanting to do a 50/50 raffle. The drawing would be during the recreation tournament, 1st week of April. Colleen to ensure that the gaming permit covers this. Further gaming questions will be addressed at the next board meeting. Also, Colleen was asking about incentives for players to have to sell tickets for the summer raffle and also consider the timeframe of how the board accepts raffles.
New Business:
1. Vertical Soccer Club Committee: In looking down the road of Fairbanks soccer in the future, Pips talked a little about the recent meeting Frank Trovoto had with various members of FYSA, Eclipse and Cyclone club attendees and the possible way forward. The meeting provided quite a bit of detail of the structure and how it would potentially work. The concept of having competitive soccer in Fairbanks under the umbrella of FYSA has been a concept for 10-12 years in Fairbanks, where essentially there would not be separate competitive clubs in Fairbanks, only team(s) of all age groups of the entire Fairbanks area under FYSA. FYSA has asked the currents clubs to put a committee together to look into the philosophy of a vertical soccer club setup and then present at a future date if this would or would not be favorable for their club. Pips asked if there are members in the club who would be interested in being on the committee. Pips Veazey, Steph McGinty, Brian Luoma, Anita Simpson, Carmen Frank have expressed interest to be on the committee. Please let Pips now if you may be interested to be a part of this committee.
2. Summer Clinic and Field Day - Dave Veazey is working on the options for the Summer clinic. He is working on getting the coaches together to find out what they want for their teams and what is of most value for their teams and the club. Information on the upcoming summer clinic will be forthcoming.
The meeting was adjourned at 5:45 pm by Pips Veazey. Seconded by Sue Signor.
The next meeting will be February 21, 4-6 pm at the Boy Scout Office.
