Boy Scout Office

Meeting Started at 4:05pm by President Pips Veazey. All attendees introduced themselves.

Members present: Pips Veazey, Bev Luoma, Brian Luoma, Anita Simpson, Sue Signor, Alan McGinty, Steph McGinty, Amy Geiger, John Cadigan, Carmen Frank, Pat Miller, and Robert Weeden, Dave Veazey.

Review of Minutes: Sue Signor moved to approve the 1-24-10 Eclipse Minutes. Steph Mcginty seconded. All approved.

Financial Update: – Sue gave a summary of the Eclipse club finances. The club's profit and loss is the same this month. We have about $4,600 earmarked from the savings for the Scholarship fund. The December Eclipse Academy had a $900 profit after SRC gym time was paid. Eclipse/Phoenix shirts and shorts were ordered at a cost of $1,500 for the academy players signed up. The cost $18 a set. Gym fees have been sent to all treasurers and managers, so team payments should start coming in. Also, accounting for the 3v3 tournament is almost complete. Thank you Sue!

Old Business:

1.   FYSA Update: Brian Luoma shared that the FYSA concession contract submission has been extended another month, as no bids have come in. The summer field fees will be $35/hr or $75 for a scrimmage. FYSA has it's summer schedule on line, including registration, outdoor dates and clinics being offered for both players and coaches. May 22/23rd is the D/E Coaching License by Frank Trovoto.

2.   Registrar Search - Chio Bussell has agreed to be our new treasurer. Thank you Chio. Also, Pips thanked Tara Drennon for all of her hard work as registrar and for keeping our club organized and on top of things Thank you Tara!

3. Midnight Sun Tournament Proposal- Pat Miller, who has had previous children of his own playing in the Eclipse Club who are now grown, attended the meeting proposing the idea of hosting teams from the Lower 48 for our Midnight Sun Tournament. It would raise the level of play at the tournament and exposure, giving more incentive for more teams to participate in the tournament. Hosting teams would take care of the room and board, with possibly two players per household together. If we invited a team they would pay for their plane tickets and spending money, our teams would host them and provide transportation. Pat is approaching Fairbanks Youth Sports about this idea and help for funding. They are excited about this concept and looking into how many teams they could possibly help. Brett Christianson, a previous Fairbanks soccer coach who is now in the lower 48 has expressed interest for this FYSA event.

4.   Goalie Coordinator Update - John Cadigan provided a goalie keeping update to the board. He is doing goalie sessions mostly on Fridays to the younger players in January, February, March and maybe April. He started off early with lots of girls and boys but now it is dwindling and hopefully has flatlined. It is more difficult to have the older kids attend and stay interested. John has been using a ball machine. John requested to puchase 2-3 mats for indoor training for when the kids go down to the ground to get balls. Bob Weeden offered to John to use the Montessori mats when needed until he purchases mats for the club. John also is looking into the possibly of using Gymnastics, Inc. for possibly goalie sessions, especially the older kids. John added that if we do the goalie sessions now with the younger kids, that they will learn to expect it and look forward to training.

5.   Coaching Coordinator Update - Dave Veazey gave a summary of the Coaching coordinator activities. He is currently doing the Academy training for U-6 and U-10 players which is being well attended. He is offering 12 sessions for each age group rather than 5 in the past. Dave really appreciates the club letting him purchase the Academy uniforms - the kids love them. Thank you Steph McGinty for ordering these for the club. At the last coaches meeting, Dave said the coaches agreed to do something different with this years summer clinic. The coaches agreed to try the Coerver Training instead of the past summer clinics with Frank Trovoto. The Coerver training will be June 8 - 11th for all 12 teams with the emphasis on the development of soccer for both the player and coach (important they attend) and will cost $125 a player with a $10 field usage fee (total $135, same as summer clinic). They will provide four 2 1/2 hours sessions a day with 6-7 of their coaches. Also included will be 2 goalkeeping sessions and 2 coaching sessions. More details about registration will come soon. Dave plans to have a couple coaches meetings before the clinic to discuss more details of the training and to encourage coaching participation in the clinic. The Coerver training is mandatory for all players unless they are out of town, injured or other personal circumstances.

Dave also informed the board about Speed Quest Training by Scott Phelps which he plans to set up in May for the kids. They would come to Fairbanks for a 2 day session $75.00 a player for a two day 6 hour session (12 hours total). If 40 players sign up then, each player gets back $35.00! These training sessions focus on speed and agility. Dave to provide more information in upcoming weeks.

6.   Field Day, May 16th - Dave Veazey gave tentative plans for the Eclipse Club Field Day to be on May 16th. Dave suggested that we make it fun with a barbecue for the players and families and a goalie wars to kick off the season. Randy Smith will need to be reserved and plans for food and organization will be needed.

7.   Club Newsletter/Soccerships: Amy Geiger discussed her progress with the newsletter. She will change the file to a pdf file so that others can read it. If you have any suggestions for the newsletter please contact Amy Geiger at amyreedg@gmail.com. Amy also talked about the soccership program and her desire to get this rolling so that we can evaluate any requests for the upcoming season. She is going through all the paperwork need to get the process rolling and will be working with a committee to move it forward.

8.   Vertical Soccer Club Update - The Vertical Club Soccer structure is a proposal by several people in town under FYSA to combine the competitive soccer teams as one under FYSA, due to the size of the community and the competition of getting the same players to roster teams for two separate club. It is in the preliminary stages and both the Eclipse and Cyclone soccer clubs are interested in learning more and how such a structure would work. As a club, we are asking the president of FYSA to see his proposal. The Eclipse club has a committee working on this concept and would like to put our own organizational chart to this process of how we see it.

9. 92/93 Team Proposal The 92/93 team is having a hard time finding a treasurer, manager and players. The club is trying to provide flexibility to this group of kids, both the girls and boys possible teams in this age group, so they can play soccer, but not have it as stringent as the younger team. It is proposed that this older group would have the same tryout process; designate a treasurer at tryouts and pay $95 by April 1st of the following year before the season starts. We feel this is a reasonable middle ground for the older kids to be able to continue playing. They would be able to participate in two tournaments: Ina K and Midnight Sun Tournament for this fee. To be further discussed at the next meeting.

10. Uniforms - All orders have been sent in by each team. People are also ordering ward ups now. Uniforms are running smoothly for the boys side by Bev Luoma, and also on the girls side by Sarah Keller. Thank you Bev and Sarah for all of your hard work getting our players suited up!

New Business:

1.   2000 Phoenix Coach: The 2000 Phoenix team lost their coach Mark due to personal reasons, and Alan Mcginty has offered to coach the team for a year. He also put in his official application to coach the 2001 team starting in the fall of 2010. Alan would coach the 2000 team for one season with Anthony Rizk and then they would be looking for a new coach for the 2010-11 season. Both Adam Goelke and John Cadigan have also offered to help the team. Alan will have a parent meeting in the next week. The board agreed that Alan McGinty will coach the 2000 team until August, 2010. Thanks Alan for stepping up to help this team.

The meeting was adjourned at 5:38 pm by Pips Veazey. Seconded by Amy Geiger.

The next meeting will be March 28, 3:00 - 4:45 pm at the Noel Wien Library.
